HEWORTH ARLC stayed in third place in National Conference division two thanks to a 32-10 victory against Brighouse Rangers.

The home side had built a 20-0 cushion, and had worked hard for it, before meeting any scoring resistance from Rangers who had a man sent off early in the second half for head-butting.

Carl Potter gave Heworth the lead after 12 minutes with a penalty after Brighouse were penalised for holding down in the tackle. Four minutes later, they added a try when, following a fine break by loose forward Luke Judson and a quick play the ball, Potter chipped over the defence and Leigh Rientoul was on hand to take full advantage.

It was 12-0 after 22 minutes as another strong run by Judson, following a 60 metre clearing run by full-back Jamie Wright, resulted in Ian Jones taking an inside ball to score under the posts. Potter added a penalty on half time.

Seven minutes after the restart a quick tap following a Rangers penalty on their own line allowed skipper Dan Briggs to use his strength to crash over.

Three minutes later, Brighouse lost a man when Sam Crowther was sent off, but playing a man short seemed to lift the West Yorkshire side's game and, 18 minutes into the second period, prop Andrew Walter forced his way over the line following a good period of pressure.

Heworth replied through prop Sean Coulson - who finished off a sweeping downfield movement - but, with ten minutes left, Brig's Alex Muff ran strongly to take advantage of an overlap with the Heworth defence overstretched touching down to narrow the gap once again and make the score to 24-10.

That was only the cue for Heworth to reassert their dominance and a Potter penalty, followed by a second try from Rientoul (pictured right) under the sticks with four minutes remaining secured a win in which all Heworth's players had played their part.
