A ONE-MAN scoring show from Kyle Palmer gave York Acorn RLFC a valuable 38-16 win away at National Conference division one strugglers East Leeds.

Palmer scored a hat-trick of tries, five conversions and two penalties as Acorn secured a much needed two points in what was a hard fought struggle.

Indeed, both sides were locked together at 16-16 at half-time, but the Blue and Golds turned on the style after the break - scoring 22 unanswered points - with Palmer at the heart of matters.

Leeds scored after just four minutes through centre Joe Sheldrake, but Heworth hit back seven minutes later through Tom Hill. His try, converted by Palmer, gave Acorn a 6-4 advantage.

It was a lead they held for just four minutes when Leeds right wing Andrew Chandler touched down, Sheldrake kicking the conversion.

Then Palmer got into top gear, scoring and converting a try after 19 minutes to swing the lead back in Heworth's favour. He added a penalty after 28 minutes but this see-saw game took another twist, two minutes later, when half-back John Carter scored.

East Leeds looked like taking a lead into the second period but a penalty on the stroke of half-time by Palmer saw the two teams locked together at the end of an entertaining first 40 minutes.

If Palmer had been influential in the first half, he put the game beyond East Leeds early in the second, adding his third try and a conversion after nine minutes of the second half to give Acorn a lead they would not surrender this time.

A further penalty from Palmer and tries from Matt Embelton and Under 18 player Joe Budd, both converted by Palmer, secured what turned out to be a comprehensive win.
