A QUARTET of netball trophies has been plundered by York’s Joseph Rowntree School.

The school won the York & Selby rounds of the National Schools’ Netball Tournament at under-14s ‘A’, U14s ‘B’, U16s ‘A’ and U16s ‘B’.

The Jo Ro U19s team finished third in their competition.

The U16s ‘A’ team dominated section one, beating Archbishop Holgate’s 13-2, Bootham 13-4, All Saints 17-0 and Queen Margaret’s 8-3.

In the semi-finals, Jo Ro beat Manor 10-4 and Mount ousted Queen Margaret’s 11-3, and Joseph Rowntree went on to edge Mount 8-6 in the final.

The finalists will now represent York & Selby in the county round next month.

The U16s ‘A’ squad comprised captain Chloe Schofield, Zoe Dickerson, Georgia Norman, Jess Morris, Cyan Moores, Alice O’Sullivan, Ellie Wharram and Freya Edmondes.

The U16s ‘B’ team topped their five-team tournament ahead of All Saints ‘A’, Huntington, Manor and All Saints ‘B’.

Joseph Rowntree’s team included captain Emily Easton, Marissa Hammond, Nat Bird, Lily Campbell, Holly Martindale, Serena Wong, Louise Atkins and Charlotte Cryne.

In their section of the U14s ‘A’ tournament, Joseph Rowntree, Huntington and Queen Margaret’s all lost only one match apiece. Joseph Rowntree had lost to Huntington but beaten Queen Margaret’s 7-3. Huntington lost to Queen Margaret’s 6-4 and beat Joseph Rowntree 6-4.

Goal average was used to decide placings and Joseph Rowntree came out on top and they went on to beat Fulford 9-3 in the semi-finals.

St Peter’s were 9-5 winners over Huntington in the other semi-final before losing 8-6 to Jo Ro in the final.

In an eight-team round-robin U14s ‘B’ tournament, hosts Joseph Rowntree were the only unbeaten side.

They topped the rankings ahead of Queen Margaret’s ‘B’, Joseph Rowntree ‘C’, All Saints ‘B’, All Saints ‘C’, Manor ‘B’, Huntington ‘B’ and Fulford ‘B’.

Captain Ellie Roberts led a team that comprised Meg Wright, Georgia Bryan, Lucy Ross, Hannah Lavers, Molly Holder and Amy Woodall. Joseph Rowntree U19s, including captain Laura Eden, Amber Moores, Vicky Miles, Emily Knowles, Polly Ambler, Gemma Kane, Beth Ellis and Abbie Bellerby, finished third in their qualifying tourmament.

St Peter’s won the competition and the runners-up position – and a place in the county round – was a close-fought contest between Joseph Rowntree and Huntington. The sides met in the final game and Jo Ro only needed a draw to qualify, but they lost by a single goal.
