UNBEATEN City of York Hockey Club’s under-14 boys began their Yorkshire Hockey League campaign in fine style at Brigshaw High School.

City had most of the play in their opening game against Bridlington, winning 2-0 with a tap-in goal by James Fitton followed by a shot from Sam Engleman that deflected in off a post, with James Crellin on hand to ensure the ball went in.

The next match against Pocklington ended in a 5-0 victory.

Louis Faithfull scored on a rebound and James Fitton then fired a well-struck shot into the top of the net.

Engleman then scored on a rebound, with Fitton notching his second from another strike high into the net. Dan Vaughan closed out the scoring with a drive through the Pocklington defence.

York preserved their 100 per cent record with a 3-0 win against Wakefield, with one goal from Faithfull and two from Vaughan, one after a run through the defence and the second from a short corner.
