POCKLINGTON School pupil Abbie Brant has retained her place in the England Under-18s hockey squad after trials ahead of the 2010/11 season. Georgia Byas, a former pupil, was also selected for the U18 team. Fixtures both home and abroad will start at Easter and go on throughout the summer.
Bryant, a member of Doncaster Hockey Club, has been a member of the England squad since being selected for the U16s and has played several times for the England team in her age group.
Meanwhile, Pocklington’s first team have won the Ampleforth VIIs tournament.
They took on nine schools from the North of England, winning their group stage convincingly with wins over Ampleforth, Leeds Grammar School, Hull Collegiate and Durham.
The girls then faced Scarborough in the final, winning 1-0 with a superb goal from Brant.
The team included captain Brant, Aimee Schofield, Ruth Tyrrell, Caitlin Bond, Alice Wilton, Millie Atkinson, Kate Pratt, Emma Hessay and Frankie Marsh.
