New Earswick Swimming Club finished the season on a high by collecting an outstanding 93 medals and breaking six records in the Ridings League Championships at Beverley Pool.

The Championships bring together swimmers from all of the 17 teams which compete in the four divisions of the Ridings League.

New Earswick’s Laura Fieldhouse, 14, led the medal haul with an impressive performance to take gold in the 50 metres butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley, smashing all four Championship records in the process.

She also won bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Ian Smithson turned in a tremendous performance, taking gold in the open 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke – both in record times. He also won gold in the 100m individual medley.

He took silver in the 50m freestyle, finishing only 100th of a second behind the winner, and was joint-silver medallist in the 50m butterfly, tying with team-mate Jonathan Woodford.

The club’s other two golds were taken by Amy Taylor, in the open 50m backstroke, and Ellie Mosey, 12 years breaststroke.

Other silver medal winners were: Frankie Marsh, 50m backstroke and butterfly; Amy Taylor, 50m butterfly and 100m IM; Dan Hynes, 50m breaststroke and 100m IM; Liam Killen, 50m breaststroke; Lewis Fairburn, 50m breaststroke; Tom Reed, 50m butterfly; Michael Feetenby, 50m backstroke; Zak Moorcroft 50m breaststroke; Hannah Bircumshaw, 50m backstroke; Jonathan Woodford, 50m butterfly.

Bronze medals were won by: Molly Eaton, 50m backstroke and 100m IM; Harriet Podmore, 50m backstroke; Vicky Kleanthous, 50m butterfly; Joe Horn, 50m freestyle; Tom Reed, 50m butterfly; Georgia Taylor, 50m backstroke; Daniel Jackson, 50m breaststroke; Tirion Horn, 50m butterfly; Amy Taylor, 50m freestyle; David Noble, 50m butterfly.

The season has been a great success for the club, winning the division two title and finishing third in the Ridings Premiership, while the ‘B’ team narrowly missed out on promotion in Ridings division two.
