POPPLETON Tigers are celebrating a sensational North Riding County FA Cup double.

The club’s under-16s girls team drew 3-3 with South Park Rangers before triumphing 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out to win the trophy at Stokesley, And the Millfield Lane outfit’s U14s girls followed that with a 3-1 victory over Scarborough Ladies.

The U16s final was only ten minutes old when Poppleton’s Tammy Dunlop broke through the South Park defence to fire the ball into the back of the net.

South Park went straight back on the attack only to see a shot from Victoria Sleight saved by Poppleton’s Megan Lee.

Midway through the first half, a succession of South Park corners failed to produce a goal, but Sleight’s 15-yard shot levelled the score on 36 minutes.

The opening ten minutes of the second half were fairly even until Poppleton’s Anna Whitehead shot past advancing South Park keeper Sophie Mansfield to put Poppy 2-1 up.

Seven minutes later, Dunlop grabbed her second and the Tigers were cruising at 3-1 up until Lauren Gilligan handled in the area and Laken Rae scored the penalty.

Lucy Hadaway was sent off on 74 minutes and a minute later South Park’s Liv Bullock levelled at 3-3 to force a penalty shoot-out.

South Park missed their first three penalties and Dunlop hammered in Poppleton’s third to seal victory.

In the U14s final, Scarborough started the game strongly and got their reward on 19 minutes when Emily Calcraft shot past Poppleton keeper Meghan Sladding.

On 45 minutes, following a much improved spell by Poppleton, Abisha Mahmoud shot from the right of the Scarborough penalty area to level.

Poppleton put more pressure on Scarborough over the next ten minutes, and a good strike from Sophie Robinson found the top corner of the net.

Ellie Dowson added a third goal three minutes later.
