YORK Acorn ARLC Under-15s remained undefeated in four games on tour to Peterlee.

They won three of their festival games but drew with Wallsend and finished as runners-up as the Tynesiders scored more tries overall.

Acorn played some expansive rugby in windy conditions, scoring some fantastic touchdowns along the way. All players contributed but there was a particularly outstanding performance from Daniel Downs, voted player of the tournament.

Acorn will hold training sessions for players from U7s to U10s on Wednesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 29, at Thanet Road. A family friendly night will take place on Friday, May 1.

Heworth U10s lost 44-24 to Lock Lane, whose quick plays and pace out wide proved too much.

Oliver Lambert was immense for the Villagers and won the parents’ man-of-the-match accolade. Oliver Pratt, with a brace of tries, was the coaches and opposition’s choice of man of the match.

Ben Young and Henry Grice-Holt worked tirelessly, with the former grabbing a try from a rebound kick. Top tackler Lucas Burden also crossed after a superb run. Harvey Watson was the most improved player, while conversions were added by Pratt, Kian Ogilvie, Burden and Young.

Harrison Barker, Adam Hodgson and most improved player Callum Costanzo starred as Heworth U9s got back to winning ways at Meltham All Blacks.

Heworth went behind early on but, after a Toby Driscoll try, they never looked back.

Men-of-the-match Barker and Hodgson scored six and three tries respectively without answer. The second half saw a quick double by the elusive Zachary Towse and a try by top tackler Ellis Cochrane before Meltham grabbed two consolation tries.

Man-of-the-match Ben Taylor scored four tries as the ever-improving Heworth U8s took on Wyke in an extremely close encounter.

Kai Gatenby notched a hat-trick on his way to collecting the man of steel award, while Jayden Tokolau also crossed. Ellis Harper was the top tackler, while Jamie Hickley and most improved player Isaac Cook also shone.

Heworth U8s ‘A’ picked up where they had left off before Easter with an outstanding display against Eastmoor.

The young Villagers are playing with a lot of confidence, taking their all-round game to a level which the opposition are finding hard to cope with.

Jackie Marwood took the man of steel award for Heworth in a guest appearance while over from Australia. Dan Clarke and Kenzie Witty notched two tries apiece as they took man-of-the-match awards, while Freddie Wilson was top tackler.

Harvey Barker (4) and Thomas Hardy (3) led the try-scoring, with Johnathon Hartley (2), Jack Thompson and Wilson also crossing.

Heworth U7s made the long trip too Newsome Panthers and put in their best performance to date despite strong winds.

Ellis Southerington was the opposition’s choice of top player, Jay Downs continued his fine form, being named most improved, and Zane Mason was named player of the week.
