A CROSS-CODE rugby double has eluded in-form Tadcaster Grammar School pupils.
The school’s Year 7 rugby union team have reached the the final of the Yorkshire Cup against Kings School, Pontefract, after a 10-5 semi-final win against Harrogate’s St John Fisher School.
The boys narrowly missed out on the opportunity of a twin trophy bid when they were edged out 26-22 at home to Brigshaw in the rugby league version of the Yorkshire Cup.
Craig Whish, coach and PE teacher, said: “The boys had played both codes of rugby from September and hadn’t lost a single match until their defeat this week, which is most commendable.
“They had worked extremely hard to adapt their skills set to both codes of rugby and reach both semi-finals.”
The rugby union Yorkshire Cup final will be held at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, in Wakefield, on Saturday, March 21 (kick off 10.30am).
Whish added: “I am incredibly proud of my boys’ achievement and wish them every success in their quest to lift the trophy.”
