IT was Greening for goals for City of York Girls’ Football League under-15 nine-a-side League leaders Wilberfoss.

Striker Syd Greening bagged all the goals in the 4-1 conquest of visiting Copmanthorpe.

It took the hosts until the 13th minute to up the tempo with good work on the right from Ellie Whytock and Jess Wills before Wilberfoss right-back Alice Ella was swift to cut out a raid by Copmanthorpe.

Just after midfielder Alex Harvey went close with a well-struck shot, the deadlock was broken when Ellie Parkin played in Greening, who ran on to comfortably slot home.

By the 35th minute the lead was doubled. Midfielder Jess Alston won the ball well and then sent away Greening to run from the half-way line before slotting a shot beyond the keeper.

Hopes of a comeback by the visitors effectively ended two minutes after the re-start.

A pinpoint pass from left-back Olivia Cant fell to the feet of Greening, whose instant finish sealed her first hat-trick of the season. As Wilberfoss took command, Ellie Fitzmaurice went close with a fierce half-volley just over the crossbar and then three minutes later Greening completed her four-strike haul after a pass from Parkin.

Copmanthorpe countered forcing keeper Georgia Stanton to bravely save at the feet of an onrushing raider. Stanton was finally beaten in the final minute as Wilberfoss extended their lead at the top to eight points ahead of today’s game at Scarborough.
