INSPIRED by goalkeeper Patrick Randall, York Schoolboys Under-13s shaded their Leeds counterparts, in a testing cup tussle.

The duel was played at Leeds on a wind-blown pitch and after York had been out of action for a fortnight.

But, backed by the elements, it was York who started the brighter, creating the first chance when Manni De Nobriga fired a shot just wide of an upright.

York continued to dominate though without seriously calling the home goalkeeper into action.

However, persistence was finally rewarded after 30 minutes.

A fluent move allowed Rob Guilfoyle to slot the ball past the advancing Leeds keeper for a 1-0 half-time lead.

As expected the initial pressure in the second half was enjoyed by Leeds.

But the defence of Nick Hutton, Lucas Wilson, Ollie Smith and Lucas Frankish stood firm with keeper Randall tidying up any long balls.

As the half progressed, the central midfield pairing of Danny Allinson and Charlie Ward regained a foothold with Charlie Buckle and Charlie Jebson King giving valuable options on the flanks.

Opportunities were limited for York but the front two of Robbie Simpson and Joe Crosby worked tirelessly.

The final ten minutes saw Leeds pushing for the crucial equaliser, but twice Randall excelled in one-on-one duels before then stretching full length to palm away a net-bound effort.

While it was not a classy performance, the York management team were thrilled at the ability to grind out a deserved result in difficult conditions and advance to the next round.
