CITY of York Under-10 girls have been crowned In2Hockey North of England Champions.

The York girls beat Thirsk 1-0 in the final of the competition at Weetwood in Leeds having progressed through the group stages and won their semi-final on penalty flicks.

York opened up with a 1-0 win over Macclesfield before a 4-0 triumph over Durham City thanks to goals from Hannah Aubrey, Jasmine Nixon, Holly Davies and Lucy May Robinson.

In their final game they went down 1-0 to Thirsk, with the score kept down by good defending from Heidi Fletcher, Lorna Rore and goalkeeper Cara Mackay.

The semi-final against Wakefield ended 2-2 and the first round of penalty flicks created a 3-3 draw, leading to sudden death.

Aubrey then scored for York and Mackay made a great save to put York through to the final.

An early goal by Aubrey spurred York on in the final against Thirsk and, despite spending much of the second half defending, they managed to hold on.
