YORK’S Mount Junior School was the venue for a new sport.

The School staged its first handball tournament in which year 3 and Year 4 girls from The Mount battled teams from St Paul’s Primary School, Scarcroft PS and Archbishop of York Junior School.

Youngsters were given tips on the basic skills of handball ahead of a hotly-contested tournament with every player receiving a certificate.

Said Vanessa Charters, director of marketing at The Mount School: “Our head of sports is always looking at new ways for the girls to engage in sport and for the school to interact with other local schools.

“The hanball tournament went down very well with all those who took part. It will become a regular fixture on the school’s calendar.”
