CITY of York Athletic Club have hit some excellent early-season form.

At the Hull Spring Open Meeting, 16 City athletes recorded 20 personal best performances between them on the day.

Under-13s ace Kathryn Clague posted a huge javelin throw or 27.72 metres among her three new bests, while U15 Rory Brooks' trio included discus (15.11m), javelin (20.60m) and hammer (11.04m).

Meanwhile, at the Sportshall UK Athletics finals, City of York athletes helped North Yorkshire to their one medal, a silver in the U13s 4x1-lap relay.

Competing at Manchester's Sportcity, Rosie Hickling, Grace Green-Hemmings, Emily Maude and a colleague from Harrogate finished 0.2 seconds behind the team from Berkshire, who won in 42.6 seconds.

For the U15 boys, Adam Tranter finished fourth in the standing long jump, with 2.70m, and ran well in the relay team that finished fifth in the final.

Carmen Brooks came sixth in the U15 girls' shot put (10.02m). With Natalya Aspinall, Olivia Roe and Gabriella Whiteley, North Yorkshire finished fourth overall in the team standings - their highest-ever placing for a girls' team.

U13s Hickling and Maude also reached the final in the 4x2-lap relay. Green-Hemmings and Elvina Vassell set the day off with a great run in the obstacle relay, where they were unfortunate to finish sixth.

With Kathryn Clague, the U13 girls' team finished seventh overall.

Louis How was a fine fourth for the U13 boys in the demanding six-lap run, just 0.1 seconds from a podium finish, while Syd Marshall, William Meigh and Hollis Lansford reached the relay final.

With Conall Wilson and Isaac Henson in the team, North Yorkshire finished eighth of 11.
