CITY of York Hockey Club Men I fell just short of an impressive fightback at home to North League premier division champions Wakefield.

The visitors needed the three points to leapfrog Deeside Ramblers into first place and they began the game in fine style, netting three in the first half.

A Tom Feasby goal before the break kept the hosts in the contest and, in the second period, a transformed City pulled another back through York's player-of-the-season Alex Cockram.

His reverse-stick strike midway through the half from open play made for tense closing stages that the hosts seemed to dominate.

In the last minute of the game, City were awarded a penalty corner and - with the final whistle blown - City had all the time they needed to set up the final strike to level but a mis-hit allowed the jubilant Wakefield to clear.

City IV secured second place and automatic promotion - league restructuring dependant - from Yorkshire League division two with a 3-1 win at basement side Lindum III. Steve Patterson, Ben Foster and Mark Moisley scored for York.

City VIII stormed to a 7-0 win at Bradford III in division five north.

Luke Harbord scored to edge out Tom Feetenby and claim the title of the club's top scorer, despite the latter's brace.

Also hitting the backboard were Bailey Kaye, Emil Waites, Jasper Richardson and Jacob Birch.

In recognition of his 20 goals, Harbord was presented with his accolade at the club's annual dinner last Saturday. He was closely followed by Feetenby (19) and Feasby (18), while Vicky Skilton took the ladies' prize for her 24 goals.
