CITY of York Hockey Club Ladies II hammered Northallerton 7-2 to secure promotion to Yorkshire Women's League premier division with three games remaining.

The Minster City side cannot now be caught at the top of the division one table and will end the season with an immediate and comfortable return to the top tier.

Sarah Rogers netted from a short corner to put York a goal to the good.

Frances Livera was next on the scoresheet. Just a minute later, she received a disguised pass at the top of the 'D' and swept it in before netting her second with a textbook finish from a short corner.

Northallerton pulled one back before the break but City bagged four second-half goals, with Victoria Skilton, Holly Davis and Ruth Laybourne getting their names on the scoresheet.

In similar style to the first half, Northallerton scored a late consolation.

City Ladies I earned a 2-2 draw at Wakefield II in North Women's Hockey division one.

City Ladies III are up to eighth in Yorkshire Women's League division one following a 1-0 triumph at Lindum II, whereas Acomb Ladies remain 11th following a 4-2 loss at Pocklington.

The Tangerines fell behind in the 10th minute and the hosts doubled their advantage a quarter of an hour later from a penalty corner.

Acomb's passing game picked up and, with seconds of the first half remaining, Roxy Farris netted from Vicky Wrigley's pass.

Three minutes into the second period, Pock restored their two-goal advantage, only for a defender to deflect Wrigley's cross into her own net and make it 3-2.

Pock secured the points with a penalty corner routine eight minutes from time.

City Ladies IV lost 2-1 at home to Ben Rhydding in division three. Nadine Henderson got the hosts' goal.
