NEW Earswick 'A' lost 98-60 to Redcar in Yorkshire League division two, picking up only two of the 14 points at stake.

Their sole winning rink came from John Harrison, Brian Birch, Mick Head and Bill Waldie, who trailed 17-9 but took nine of the last 10 ends, including a six and a four, to triumph 28-19.

Bob Elliot, Jim Pinder, Colin Ellis and Andrew Fothergill dropped a five and a six in a 22-11 defeat, while, on the east coast, Brian Harton, Vic Reed, Ralph Tiplady and Colin Pickup fell 29-6 and Joe Barker, Steve Connolly, Gary Jones and Paul Dawson, despite picking up a five at the 10th end to draw level at 9-9, dropped two fours and a five on the way to a 28-15 defeat.

New Earswick 'B' lost 98-77 to North Cave 'B' in division three.

They likewise had only one winning rink - Bill Nuckey, Dave Hutchinson, Steve Hudson and Eric Cookson hanging on for a 27-24 success after building a healthy lead thanks to a four, a three and a seven in the first five ends.

Gordon Fratson, Barry Harrison, Steve Hudson and Vic Thompson lost a ding-ding game 26-19, while, away, Dave Crane, Allister Domville, Alwyn Anderson and Bob Barrett lost 28-13, and Dave Thompson, Brian Hutton, Dave Sykes and Dick Osguthorpe were pipped 20-18 after fighting back from 13-5 down to lead 17-15 with four ends to go.

Meanwhile, New Earswick Ospreys lost 80-68 to Doncaster in their final Yorkshire Over-55s League match of term.

At home, Phil Whitehead, Peter Waddington, Alwyn Anderson and Bob Barrett won three of the last four ends for a 20-16 win, but Ian Carr, Howard Darrell, Vic Reed and Vic Thompson got off to a poor start and lost 25-15.

Away, Gordon Johnson, Steve Connolly, Graham Bell and Gary Stockton won 20-16, but Gordon Fratson, Dave Toms, Dave Hutchinson and John Taylor dropped a seven at the third end and lost eight of the last nine to go down 23-13.

New Earswick crashed 106-43 to Harrogate in the North Eastern Ladies' League.

At home, Carole Thompson, Norma Davies, Sally Domville and Majorie Watson lost 17-10, and Kath Hardcastle, Kay Hutchinson, Diane Hardy and Margaret Morgan fell 27-9.

Away, Leslie Nuckey, Ann Lea, Jackie Toms and Irene Warrington lost 41-11, and Doramy Bellwood, Christine Pickup, Margaret Pearson and Kath Sykes went down 21-13.
