CITY of York Hockey Club Men I lost their first game in three as they went down 4-2 at University of Durham II.

Tom Feasby and Ollie Couttie hit the backboard for City, who remain sixth in the North Hockey League premier division.

Next up for City is a home game against high-fliers Didsbury.

City started the weekend's fixture well and went a goal up as Feasby shovelled in from less than a yard out, but Durham got a quick equaliser and had York under considerable pressure for the rest of the half.

York looked good in the second period and were denied a second goal only by Durham's post-man, who made a fine save off the line from a Mike Carter drag flick.

Durham took the lead after York failed to clear from their circle but Ollie Couttie got City back level, slotting home coolly after dispossessing the hosts' right-back.

But York were reduced to 10 men for five minutes and were punished by two further home goals.

In the Yorkshire League premier division, City II were well beaten 5-1 by Wakefield II.

Wakefield were much improved from the 7-1 defeat City inflicted on them earlier in the season and were dangerous on the break, finishing the first half 4-0 up.

City were too frequently caught outnumbered in defence, although they had a good finish from Jack Bass disallowed. The visitors got their consolation through a Danny Ellwood rebound at a short corner.

City III are still in trouble in division three following a 3-2 home defeat to Hull University. Pat Herriott and Connor Watson scored for City.

City IV won 3-0 at Ramgarhia in division two to pull level with the second-placed outfit. Matt Tipper, Chris Dutton and Chris Wilson were on target.

Acomb I thumped division two strugglers Lindum III 7-1 to go fifth.

The Tangerines started strongly in possession, with Ryan Smith and Pete Hilton wide on each flank, but the 10-man visitors defended soundly until the 20th minute when Owen Wilkie netted the rebound from his saved first effort.

Jamie Robinson scored a neat strike from a penalty corner to double the hosts' lead and settle their nerves before the break.

Lindum were still a threat on the counter attack and pulled a goal back five minutes into the second half but three goals in 10 minutes from the Tangerines put the game out of sight. Matt Dickenson scored a penalty stroke before Tom Brown struck home and Wilkie netted from close range for his second of the day.

As the visitors tired, Acomb were finding the forward line regularly through James Tindall as they moved the ball from side to side. Dickenson netted his second with 14 minutes remaining and Brown broke Lindum’s resilience with eight minutes left to cap a fine show.

Matt Bedford scored the only goal of the game as City of York V won 1-0 against Thirsk II in division three, while, in division four north, John Barrett got City VI's consolation at Halifax III and Neil Reader (2) netted for City VII in a 4-2 defeat to Leeds VII.

City VIII beat division five north and cross-city rivals Acomb II 2-0 thanks to goals from Harry Ake and Emil Waites. The Tangerines remain two points ahead in the table.

City IX's division five north game at Driffield III was called off.

City X were knocked off top spot in the Men's Development north division by Bradford IV, who beat them 1-0.
