LUCY HADAWAY maintained her excellent winter form by winning the long jump at the English Indoor Age Group Championships in Sheffield.

The City of York Athletic Club star took gold in the under-20 women’s event with a championship best leap of 6.31 metres.

This surpassed world indoor pentathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s mark of 6.30m set back in 2012.

Hadaway’s club-mate, Amy Rolfe, finished 10th with 5.53m.

City of York’s long jumping strength was further highlighted by Alfie Bugg taking fifth place in the U17 boys’ event with a leap of 6.28m.

Also at Sheffield, hammer thrower Maria Schofield showed her versatility by taking seventh place in the U20 women’s shot putt with 11.69m.

Ed Lake (22.41 seconds) and Natalya Aspinall (25.82) reached their respective U20 men’s and U17 girls’ 200-metre semi-finals, with the latter also just missing out on the 60m final in 7.95 seconds.

Meanwhile, Josh Dickinson was City of York’s top performer in the Saucony English National Cross Country Championships at Harewood House, near Leeds.

Dickinson finished eighth in the U17 men’s event, clocking 19 minutes 17 seconds for the 6km course.

Finnian Hutchinson (19-51) was 26th in the same race, while club-mate Lottie Langan (11-56) finished 58th in the U13 girls’ race over 3km.

York’s Tim Stratton came 89th in the senior men’s race over 12km, clocking 39-48 and leading the team to 61st place overall.

There was a close battle between City of York pair Charlotte Mason and Emma Ballantyne in the senior women’s race.

Mason edged out Ballantyne by five seconds and two places, finishing 11th in 33-23.

James Tucker (32-09) came 84th in the U20 men’s race over 10km.

Jack Eggington was City of York’s fastest male Parkrunner of the weekend, with 16 minutes 39 seconds at Heslington, while U11 starlet Annabel Coxon was the quickest female with 23-39.

Daniel Campbell (7-34) and William Keens (7-38) came first and second in the York Junior Parkrun.
