CITY of York Hockey Club Ladies II went eight points clear at the top of Yorkshire League division one with a 6-0 home thumping of bottom side Airedale.

Holly Davies and Sarah Rogers each scored twice as the leaders comfortably dispatched the winless basement side.

It took just over 10 seconds for Davies to give City the lead as an inspired York drove into the 'D' and netted.

Sarah Rogers added a swift second and Davies completed her brace before the break.

Airedale fought back in the second period but York defended well and, after a few tense moments, got back on the attack, with Fay Chapman, Ruth Laybourne and Rogers all finding the backboard.

Lowly City Ladies I drew 3-3 at mid-table Stokesley in North Women's League division one. City, 10th of 12 teams, next week host third-placed Newcastle University.

Ninth-placed City Ladies III lost 5-4 at Pocklington in Yorkshire League division one.

Sophie Burn scored late to complete a superb three-goal fightback for division one rivals Acomb Ladies, who drew 3-3 at home to Driffield II.

After conceding three in the first period, the Tangerines were spurred on by midfielders Emily Watson and Burn linking up with Kerry Woods, Kiera Woods and Vicky Wrigley.

Wrigley netted from close range following a good run, followed shortly by a Gemma Kane goal.

As the game looked to be petering out, a last-minute Burn strike rescued a point for the hosts, who went level on points with City III.

Nicola Winter (2), Rachel Hildreth, El Young, Nadine Roder and Lucy Tate were on target as City Ladies IV beat Driffield III 6-1.

City Ladies V drew 0-0 with Northallerton II in division four north and City Ladies VI lost 1-0 at home to Selby II in division five north.
