YORK Knights returned to the top of Yorkshire Over-55s Indoor Bowls League division two by beating Hornsea Hawks 93-62 - their sixth win in seven outings.

At home, Harley Wenham, John Walton, David White and Pete Bradley expanded on a 15-7 lead by winning eight successive ends, finishing with a 32-9 success.

Charlie Arnett, Dave Holder, Dave Elcock and Ray Calpin were 4-1 down after five ends but went ahead with a four and went on to win 22-12.

Away, Allen Clapham, Ken Robinson, Eric Hodgson and Malcolm Thompson, despite winning 10 of the 21 ends, paid for dropping big scores and lost 32-14, but Alan Braithwaite, Dave Clarke, Dave Dearlove and Geoff Walker led from start to finish and won 25-9.

The Knights play their biggest game of the season tomorrow as they entertain second-placed Doncaster at noon.

Also in division two, York Romans will look to move off the bottom by beating New Earswick Ospreys - who lost 79-74 to Selby last time out.

Phil Whitehead, Ian Carr, Alwyn Anderson and Bob Barrett won 23-19, aided by an early 16-4 lead, but this was New Earswick's only success.

Also at home, Dave Furness, Dave Crane, Howard Darrell and Vic Thompson picked up a full house all eight at the fourth end and later led 22-20, but they lost 24-21.

At Selby, Gordon Johnson, Dave Toms, Dave Hutchinson and Gary Stockton won ten of the first 14 ends to lead

15-6 but the hosts hit back to win 17-16.

Steve Conolly, Vic Wooley, Barry Shipley and John Taylor similarly led 11-5 but Selby hit back to win 19-14.

In division one, York Vikings meet second-placed North Cave White in their last match of term tomorrow knowing an aggregate victory will give them the title.
