YORK swept aside a struggling Scarborough 130-36 to go back to the top of the Yorkshire Indoor Bowls League first division, easily winning all four rinks.

At home, Phil Parsons, Alan Hampshire, Jeff Normanton and Tony Horobin picked up an early five then a seven to lead 16-2 after seven ends and didn't look back en route to a 40-9 win, while Neal Macdonald, Graham Brooke, Kieran Earnshaw and Phil Emmerson only lost six ends in a 28-9 victory.

In Scarborough, Alan Vowles, Mick Cooney, Mark Clarke and Craig Newton took control of their game to win 36-7, and John Whiteley, Jack Woodworth, John Crowe and Dave Stroughair, having been 7-7 after nine ends, took theirs 26-11.

York 'B' pulled off a fantastic 83-66 victory against promotion hopefuls Redcar in division two, winning three rinks.

At home, Harley Wenham, Dave Elcock, David White and Geoff Walker won seven of the first eight ends to lead 11-3. By the 15th the lead was reduced to 15-11 but they won the next five and the match, 22-12.

Ken Griffiths, Eric Hodgson, Ray Calpin and Malcolm Thompson were 17-15 down with four ends to play but three successive twos saw them win 21-19.

In Redcar, Ken Simpson, Pete Riley, Gordon Fennell and Mal Bulmer trailed 9-5 after eight ends before six winning ends gave them a 13-9 lead which they did not relinquish in a 21-14 success.

Allen Clapham, Bill Flavell, Pete Bradley and Graham Instone turned a 7-3 deficit into an 11-7 lead but then dropped 10 shots over the next five ends. They came back well to go into the last just 20-19 down but dropped a single.

New Earswick were pipped 71-67 on aggregate by Thornaby - the teams having one winning rink each and the other two being drawn.

Dave Furness, Dave Claydon, Mick Head and Paul Dawson ended their ding-dong game 17-17, Dawson drawing the winner on the last to notch the share-all.

Andy Humphreys, Rod Walker, Ralph Tiplady and Colin Pickup drew 19-19, this time Thornaby picking up a single on the last. Earswick had led 17-10 after 15 ends.

At Thornaby, Bob Elliot, Brian Birch, Brian Gray and Andrew Fothergill, having been 11-10 down after 12 ends, took control to win 23-15 win. However, John Harrison, Paul Murray, Gary Jones and Bill Waldie lost 20-8.

In the Yorkshire Ladies' League, New Earswick beat Thornaby 65-57.

Leslie Nuckey, Ann Lea, Jackie Toms and Irene Warrington lost 14-10 after a low-scoring contest but Kath Hardcastle, Kay Hutchinson, Diane Hardy and Margaret Morgan won 24-10. They had led 14-4 and finished with a five, a three and a two.

At Thornaby, Carole Thompson, Rebecca Connolly, Sally Domville and Norma Davies went down 18-6, but Doramy Bellwood, Christine Pickup, Margaret Pearson and Kath Sykes, having been 8-5 down, struck back to lead 18-10 and finished with a four and a five for a 25-15 win.

On Saturday at noon, York 'C', in Yorkshire League division three, will look to improve their chances of a place in the end-of-season Hebden Challenge Cup as they play North Cave 'B'.
