CAM SHAW has become the latest York boxer to sign a professional contract.
The featherweight prospect has put pen to paper with the experienced Huntington-based manager Glenn Banks, who has previously managed the up-and-coming pro Mike Fafera.
Shaw - a former All Saints RC School pupil - has good amateur pedigree, winning the Amateur Boxing Association's Elite 60kg title in 2018, and the gold medal at the prestigious Hivdovre Box Cup in Denmark the year before.
Also from Huntington, Shaw now works as a production engineering assistant at Portakabin.
The 21-year-old will be trained by Billy Dawson at Tommy Coyle Academy West in Hull. His professional licence is subject to passing British Boxing Board of Control procedures, but Banks does not foresee any problems there.
Banks said: "Naturally, I'm very excited to be working with the highly-rated Cam Shaw and trainer Billy Dawson. He is very experienced, has a sensible head on his shoulders and is very grounded.
"I am very confident that, working as a team, Cam’s professional career will be a successful one.
"Cam’s professional debut will hopefully be around May or June time at a York venue. I’m urging the York public to fully back Cam and give him the support he deserves."
