YORK boxer Mike Fafera is out to prove he is more than a "one-trick pony" when he steps into the ring for his first fight of 2019.

The 24-year-old has a perfect professional record so far, with two wins from two, but he has expressed disappointment that the bout lengths have not allowed him to showcase his abilities beyond pure power.

His first fight ended with Newark's Zac Thompson having to retire at the end of the first round, and his second - against Ant Donaldson - was won on a technical knockout in 65 seconds.

Fafera's opponent for the Saturday, March 2 contest at the Elland Road banqueting suite has not yet been confirmed, but the light-heavyweight fighter is hoping for someone who can go the distance.

He said: "I've been killing training for it. It's all going great.

"I've been sparring three times a week with some top lads - there's a lot of talent in Leeds and the surrounding areas - and we're all training hard together.

"Mark Bateson (manager) and Steve (Melton, coach) agreed my next opponent has to be durable and can last the rounds.

"I need the rounds and someone who can give me a go, let me expose my skills. I don't learn a lot through stopping someone in the first round.

"I want to expose my skills and show everyone I'm not a one-trick pony."

Tickets are now available for the fight, with around half remaining of the 200 Fafera was supplied with.

Of his York following, Fafera said: "It doesn't go unnoticed. I appreciate everybody who comes - without them, there would be no point in doing it.

"When I hear people shouting my name, it gives me a bit extra. I'd like to say a big thank-you to everybody who comes to support me."

Standard tickets are priced at £40, VIP tickets are £75 and ringside are £85. Phone or text Fafera on 07543 335695 for tickets, or message him on Facebook or via the Instagram handle mfafera_.
