JAMES ATKINS bagged a treble, including a superb win over Martin Lowe, as Topspin 'B' beat Coneysthorpe 'A' 6-4 in division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League.

Lowe is the top men's seed in this weekend's York Closed Championships.

Joe Wright was unbeaten as leaders Topspin 'A' defeated Coneysthorpe 'B' 7-3.

York RI 'A' remain in contention after trebles from Paul Robertson and Flip Wojtkowiak underpinned a 9-1 victory over their 'B' team, while a maximum from Mikey Arnold saw Shiyi Ling 'A' edge their 'B' team 6-4.

York RI 'C' continued their winning run in division two with in-form Andy Kirk undefeated in a 7-3 victory over Shepherds 'A'.

University 'B' fielded their strongest team of the season as they whitewashed Poppleton 10-0.

Ian Hilton was on top form as Bootham 'A' beat York RI 'D' 7-3, and a maximum from John McLaughlin earned Wigginton & Haxby 'A' a creditable draw versus Ryedale 'A'.

It took a treble from Graham Hatfield for Clarence 'A' to see off a dogged Clarence 'B' 6-4, with the 'B' team's Chris Maude picking up his best victory of the season over Rob Farmery.

Division three leaders Wigginton & Haxby 'B' stretched the gap at the top to 30 points as they thrashed York RI 'F' 9-1. Alberto Nidasio played well to pick up Railway's sole point with a notable win over highly-rated Sam Crutchley.

University 'C' edged York RI 'E' 6-4, Daria Golubova and Oliver Kossoff bagging braces for the students, likewise Marcin Ziolek and Mark Antrobus for RI. Mike Surtees and Chris Hutchinson recorded two wins each as Shepherds 'B' beat Ryedale 'B' 6-4.

Division four leaders Wigginton & Haxby 'C' whitewashed York RI 'G', and second-placed Wigginton & Haxby 'D' had a comfortable 8-2 win over University 'D' with Clive Pottage unbeaten.

An unbeaten effort from Nigel Baker saw Shepherds 'C' beat a determined Clarence 'H' 6-4, while Tony Fairburn led the way as Wigginton & Haxby 'E' beat Shiyi Ling 'D' 7-3.
