YORK Knights went back to the top of the Yorkshire Over-55s Indoor Bowls League second division with a 106-74 victory over North Cave Maroon.

They won all four rinks, with the away teams impressing first.

Alan Braithwaite, Dave Clarke, Dave Dearlove and Geoff Walker were 6-4 down but took control with a five plus eight more shots over the next three ends en route to a 28-13 victory.

Allen Clapham, Ken Robinson, Eric Hodgson and Malcolm Thompson started with a six and led 18-2 after only six ends, going on to win 28-18.

At home, Charlie Arnett, Dave Berwick, Dave Elcock and Ray Calpin led 14-4 after nine ends and Harley Wenham, Ian Mackland, David White and Ray Clark 16-6 after 10.

Calpin's team saw their advantage slashed to 21-19 with four ends to play but won three of them for a 25-21 success.

Clark's team dropped 13 shots over the last five but won 25-22.

The Knights meet Hornsea Hawks tomorrow at 12.30pm.

Meanwhile, New Earswick Ospreys beat Leeds 'B' 79-70 in division two, picking up 10 of the 16 points.

At home, a good middle and end from Gordon Johnson, Howard Darrell, Dave Hutchinson and Gary Stockton brought them a 23-14 win.

Gordon Fratson, Dave Crane, John Taylor and Graham Bell, though, lost 23-15.

At Leeds, Phil Whitehead, Ian Carr, Alwyn Anderson and Bob Barrett dominated their game to lead 26-7, eventually winning 27-12.

Dave Furness, Barry Shipley, Vic Reed and Vic Thompson scored a four at their seventh end to level at 6-6 and were only 12-10 down after 14, but went on to lose 21-14.

York beat Scarborough 69-60 in their North Eastern Ladies' League game, winning three rinks.

At home, Eva Snarr, Jen Brown, Sheila Turpin and Pauline Cooper scored three fours and a three on their way to a 17-1 lead after only seven ends. Boro got back to 21-15 before the hosts sealed a 24-15 victory.

Brenda Love, Bar Saville, Kath Pepper and Barbara Dawson led 7-1 after five ends and later 14-5 before Boro cut the deficit to 14-11 with two ends to play. Dawson's team won both to finish 16-11.

In Scarborough, Denise Elliott, Pat Berwick, Maggie Pallister and Pat Potter responded to a dropped single on their first end with a four then a three and kept the lead to the finish, winning 16-13.

Maureen Robinson, Sheila Clargo, Sue Jeffrey and Joan Knight trailed 8-0 after three ends and this proved crucial as they lost 21-13.

New Earswick lost 70-53 to Doncaster in the same league, but picked up four of the 10 points.

At Huntington Road, Sally Domville, Christine Pickup, Margaret Morgan and Norma Davies crashed 28-8.

Kay Hutchinson, Kath Hardcastle, Margaret Pearson and Majorie Watson dropped a five at their first end and were always playing catch-up but a three at the 16th followed by two singles won the match 14-13.

At Doncaster, Doramy Bellwood, Carole Thompson, Jennie Philpott and Kath Sykes won only three of their first 10 ends to trail 11-5 but lost only 14-13 after taking six of the last eight.

Leslie Nuckey, Ann Lea, Jackie Toms and Irene Warrington trailed 12-4 but won six of the next seven ends to level at 13-13 and edged an 18-15 victory.

New Earswick lost 49-31 to Redcar in the Yorkshire Double Rinks.

At home, Paul Murray, Bob Elliot, Mick Head and Bill Waldie fought back from 12-4 down after seven ends to lead 14-13 after 14 but went on to lose 22-17.

In Redcar, Brian Gray, Gary Jones, Andrew Fothergill and Paul Dawson dropped a four and a six to trail 14-4 and, despite cutting the gap to 14-12, fell away to a 27-14 defeat.

On Saturday at noon, York play Scarborough on in Yorkshire League division one, at the same time York 'B' play Redcar.

On Sunday, Yorkshire IBA stage their Singles and Senior Singles qualifiers at York's Thanet Road home, starting at 10am. At noon, Yorkshire meet Lincolnshire in the EIBA Under-18s Double Rinks at the same venue, then, at 1pm, Blackpool Newton Hall play Barwell in the Top Club quarter-final. Next Tuesday, York play their last-16 tie against Cumbria, starting at noon.
