CITY of York Hockey Club Men I came out the right side of a nine-goal thriller against Formby to climb to sixth in North Hockey premier division.

Mike Carter scored twice, with Jack Purrington, Alex Cockram and Tom Feasby also on target, in the 5-4 win - City's fourth on the bounce at home.

A thunderous strike from Purrington and Carter's deft deflection into the roof of the net put City two up early on but let Formby back into the contest, making it 2-2 at half-time.

Carter put York ahead after the break with a drag flick, but Formby levelled almost immediately, before Alex Cockram put away a rebound to restore the hosts' lead.

More sloppy City defending allowed Formby to set up a tight finish with another equaliser before Feasby snatched the points in the 68th minute, lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper following a fast break.

City are back in action this weekend when they visit fourth-placed Deeside Ramblers, whose defeat last time out was their first in eight games.

Adam Hunter scored twice to help City of York II to a 2-1 win at Halifax and to jump two places to sixth in Yorkshire League premier division.

City of York III are also on the rise, moving up to eighth in division one after a 2-0 home win over Brigg II thanks to goals from Josh de Silva and Joel Wilson.

City of York IV won 3-1 at Sheffield University Bankers IV in division two with Henry Birchall, Ben Foster and Chris Wilson scoring.

James Hoyle got City of York V's only goal of the game in 1-0 victory over Harrogate IV in division three.

Also in division five north, City of York IX lost 4-1 at home to Thirsk III while City of York X won 1-0 at Ben Rhydding VII in Men's Development north division, with Nathan Ridsdale on target.

City of York Ladies II went eight points clear at the top of Yorkshire Ladies League division one with a 3-0 win at strugglers Lindum II.

Francis Livera broke the deadlock in the second half, scoring from a short corner and a buoyed City soon got a second through Corinne Wray.

This goal allowed the visitors to settle as Lindum looked for a reply before Vicky Skilton made the points safe with a third in a superb team performance.

Ninth-placed in division one, City of York Ladies III lost 3-2 at home to Northallerton. Celia Wright and Liz Armitage were on target for City.

City of York Ladies IV remain fifth in division three following 3-0 defeat at Sheffield Hallam III.

City of York Ladies V dropped to 12th in division four north with 4-1 home defeat to Thirsk III.

City of York Ladies VI lost 1-0 at Leeds V in division five north.

The hosts got the only goal of the game from a goalmouth scramble, before seeing a penalty stroke saved by City player-of-the-match Katie Houldershaw.

City had chances to level, including two late penalty corners, but could not capitalise.
