DUNNINGTON’S lead at the top of squash's Yorkshire Premier League was dramatically cut from 21 points to six as Barnsley inflicted a shock defeat on the reigning champions.

The York club have led the YPL since week one but a weakened side missing its usual top two, Chris Simpson and Rob Downer, went down 18-5 at home – to the delight of second-placed Hallamshire, who won handsomely 20-1 against Chapel Allerton 2.

Barnsley’s win was sealed early in the night when their lower order of Tom Bamford, Jack Turney and Welsh international Elliott Morris Devred all won in straight games.

Danny Hockborn put three points on the board for the hosts by overcoming Stuart MacGregor at second string but Dunnington’s disappointment was complete when Barnsley’s Miles Jenkins took a five-setter with Julian Tomlinson by winning the decider 11/9.
