A TREBLE from Martin Lowe could not prevent Coneysthorpe 'A' losing 6-4 to Coneysthorpe 'B' in a shock result in division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League.

Michael Polkinghorn and Joel Wright bagged two wins apiece for the 'B' team to dent their club-mates' title hopes.

In the only other fixture in the top tier this week, York RI 'A' whitewashed Shiyi Ling 'B' with Filip Wojtkowiak, Richard Crowther and Paul Robertson proving too good for the strugglers.

Second division leaders York RI 'C' stunned promotion hopefuls Ryedale 'A', Tim Smith and Andy Kirk on top form in a superb 9-1 triumph. Pat Swindell picked up the solitary point for Ryedale with a fine win over Ady McClaren.

A maximum haul from Mike Robinson was decisive as York RI 'D' defeated Bootham 'B' 6-4, while Graham Hatfield was unbeaten as Clarence 'C' edged Shepherds 'A' 6-4.

Bootham 'A' went second as Steve Milner and Gareth Bryning starred in a 9-1 demolition of bottom team Clarence 'E'. Consolation for Clarence came from Paul Seeking, who secured an excellent victory over Ian Hilton.

In division three, champions-elect Wigginton & Haxby 'B' thrashed bottom team South Bank 10-0.

Strensall 'B' strengthened their grip on the second promotion slot as John Temple and Simon Prins, unbeaten on the night, helped them cruise to an 8-2 victory over York RI 'E'.

Braces from Russ Scott, Robert Plant and Terry Nicolson allowed Clarence 'F' to see off Shiyi Ling 'C' 7-3, while Paul Lodder was unstoppable as Clarence 'G' clinched a notable 6-4 win over Shepherds 'B'.

An unbeaten effort from Ed Wardman was insufficient as his Ryedale 'B' side lost 7-3 to York RI 'F', while Dave Simpson and Nigel White led BT 'A' to a 7-3 victory over their 'B' team.
