COLIN ROBINSON claimed a hat-trick of Gordon Little Trophy successes at York Indoor Bowls Club.

Robinson teamed up with Pete Riley and David White to complete his treble in the competition, which was moved to Christmas week from its normal March date for the first time.

The switch in dates proved to be a huge success, with the competition attracted the highest number of entries since 2004.

Only two teams went through the group stages unbeaten with John Orchard, Mal Rankeillor and Terry Wheatley topping the group with the same shots difference as Pat Simpson, Harley Wenham and Pauline Cooper's team.

They took top spot by scoring one more shot throughout the group stage.

Both semi-finals were close and both tied at 5-5 after seven ends.

At that stage, Wheatley's team, who were facing fourth placed John Munday, Dave Clough and Alan Braithwaite, picked up singles on the last couple of ends to take their game 7-5.

In the other semi-final, Cooper's team were playing against Robinson, Riley and White, who despite losing their last group game had the best shots difference on the day.

In a similar scenario to the other semi-final, two singles saw White's team through to the final 7-5.

In the final, Wheatley's team were first on the board with a single then a two, followed a couple of ends later with another two to make the score 5-2.

But then White's team got back into the game and, with a couple of ends to play, the scores stood at 7-7.

White's team took the lead with a two then sealed the game with a three on the last to make the final score 12-7.
