NEW Earswick Indoor Bowls Club Ladies drew a cracker against Thornaby 72-72 in the Yorkshire Women's League.

The teams shared the ten points.

At home, a poor start saw Lorna Tordoff, Sally Domville, Jackie Toms and Norma Davies lose 24-8.

However, Lynn Page, Kay Hutchinson, Margaret Pearson and Majorie Watson led 12-2 after six ends, helps by a five and a four. It was 15-8 after 11 and Earswick pulled away to win 25-12.

At Thornaby, Leslie Nuckey, Jennie Philpott, Irene Warrington and Monika Morgan trailed 20-6 after 12 ends but fought back to 20-16 over the next three. They notched another four at the last but went down 23-20.

Doramy Bellwood, Jean Cann, Margaret Morgan and Kath Sykes fought back from 11-6 down after 10 ends to go 13-11 ahead after 14. Thornaby levelled but Earswick won the last three for a 19-13 victory.

New Earswick 'A' lost 89-68 to Harrogate in Yorkshire League division two.

They picked up only two points from one winning rink - that of Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Tony Abbot and Kevin Liddel.

They led 8-6 after nine ends and, although they trailed 13-8 after 13, a single and a five put them 14-13 up. It was 17-17 with two to play, Earswick picking up a four and a single to win 22-17.

At home, Colin Ellis, Andrew Fothergill, Mick Head and Paul Dawson led 6-1 after four ends but lost 23-8.

John Harrison, Ken Harrison, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie led 14-6 after 11 ends but lost 24-15.

At Harrogate, Gary Stockton, Andy Humphreys, Gary Jones and Paul Humphreys began and finished well but lost 25-19.

New Earswick 'B' won only one rink against Selby 'B' in division three but took eight of the 14 points after winning 73-66 on aggregate.

That crucial rink involved Brian Birch, Brian Hutton, Terry Bellwood and Dick Osguthorpe. They led 9-1 after six ends and, although the hosts fought back, they took a five, four and single in the last three to win 25-14.

Also at Selby, Alwyn Anderson, Nigel Steels, Bob Barrett and Eric Cookson lost 19-17.

At home, Bill Nuckey, Steve Hudson, Vic Thompson and Kevin Potter played catch-up after dropping a five at the third. They took the lead at the 17th but dropped a four at the next and slipped to an 18-17 defeat.

Paul Murray, Alister Domville, John Snowdon and Brian Gray led 11-4 after nine ends but Selby levelled with one to play and won it with a single, 15-14.

New Earswick Ospreys were no match for leaders Harrogate in Yorkshire Over-55s League division two, losing 105-71.

At home, highlights for Vic Woolley, Dave Booth, Dave Hutchinson and Alwyn Anderson were a seven at the 13th end and an excellent fightback, winning the last five ends, but they lost 27-25.

Dave Counter, Dave Toms, John Taylor and Bob Barrett also won the last four ends but the game had long gone and they lost 28-13.

At Harrogate, Gordon Johnson, Pat Inwood, Vic Thompson and Eric Cookson led 12-5 after eight ends and also took five of the last seven. However, they lost 26-24.

Howard Darrell, Bruce Dobson, Alan Price and Kevin Potter fell 24-11, a four the highlight.

Harrogate took all 18 points.
