YORK Indoor Bowls Club's Alan Vowles and Helen Wood made light work of their Yorkshire Mixed Pairs semi-final against Hornsea's Mark Goodfellow and Katie Baxter.

The Thanet Road duo were 25-5 ahead when their opponents conceded the game with two ends to play.

Mike Parker's rink will go for more York glee on Sunday when they meet Geoff Blunn's North Cave trio in the Yorkshire Knockout Triples semi-final, starting at 10am.

Meanwhile, York 'C' boosted their chances of finishing in the top four of Yorkshire League division three - giving them a place in the Hebden Challenge Cup - when they beat third-placed Hornsea 'B' 74-68 in a thriller, picking up 12 points.

York trailed 24-15 after five ends and 45-33 after 10, but the next five ends changed the game as they picked up 25 shots while dropping only eight.

Away, Wally Darbyshire, Barry Walker, Gordon Walker and Tony Bryan came from 12-5 down to lead 14-12 with four ends to go. A dropped two levelled the scores but a single then a three gave Bryan's men a comfort zone and they finished 18-15.

Andy Lockwood, Noel Mallen, Jack Parsons and Jim Robertson were level at 18-18 with two ends to go, but lost 21-18.

In York, Charlie Arnett, Steve Lea, Dave Preece and Mike Snowden picked up two threes then a two between the 10th and 12th ends to lead 15-10 and they held on to win 19-18.

Pete Waring, Mal Rankeillor, Paul Craven and Ray Clark's rink were 13-7 down after 10 ends but won all but one of the remainder to triumph 19-14.

York 'C' complete their fixtures on Saturday where they need to win two rinks and the aggregate against bottom-placed Doncaster to seal their top-four place.

Tomorrow at noon, York Romans complete their Yorkshire Over-55s League division two fixtures knowing a victory with three winning rinks against New Earswick Ospreys will move them off the bottom.

At the same time, Thanet Road hosts West Denton a Lincoln in the Mason Trophy last 16.

On Saturday at noon, York 'A' will look to enhance their chances of winning Yorkshire League division one when they play bottom team Thornaby, while York 'B' complete their season against North Cave 'B'.
