ANGUS MCMILLAN and Josh Dickinson claimed individual titles as City of York Athletic Club’s juniors impressed in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships at Lightwater Valley.

McMillan won the under-20 men’s title, while Dickinson added the U17 boys’ crown to the U15 championship he secured in 2017.

Georgia Rothwell was the club’s leading female performer, finishing second in the U20 women’s race.

Having won the West Yorkshire League title last month, McMillan maintained his excellent form with a well-timed victory.

He pulled away from City of Sheffield & Dearne’s Alfie Manthorpe on the penultimate lap to finish over 100 metres clear in a time of 27 minutes 31 seconds for the 8.24km course.

With Maurice Carlton-Seal (28-43) coming home fourth and James Tucker (32-52) 12th, City of York added the U20 men’s team title for good measure.

Dickinson had a similarly emphatic win in the U17s race as he pulled away from Ilkley Harriers’ Euan Brennan just after the halfway mark to win by around 100 metres, covering the 6.35km course in 20-30.

Clubmate Luca Parker (21-18) had a fine run in fifth and, with Archie Lawson (23-10) coming 15th, York took silver medals in the team event behind Ilkley.

Rothwell led for much of her race over 6.35km, but was overtaken by Alice Moore (Barnsley) with a mile to go to finish second.

Moore clocked 24-01, with Rothwell 22 seconds behind.

Their top-eight finishes meant McMillan, Carlton-Seal, Dickinson, Parker and Rothwell all earned Yorkshire vests to represent the White Rose team at the Inter-Counties Championships in March.

Joining them in the prestigious event will be City of York clubmates Finnian Hutchinson and Martha Carlton-Seal.

Hutchinson finished fifth in the U15 boys’ race, recording 14-54 for the 4.35km course, while Carlton Seal (15-44) was seventh in the girls’ equivalent over 3.9km.

City of York’s Edward Hanley (9-11) came ninth in the 2.55km U13 boys’ event.

The club also secured top-10 team finishes in the U15 boys (fourth), U13 girls (sixth) and U13 girls' (seventh) races.

Meanwhile, City of York’s Andrew Lawrence (20-02) and Kieran Dowzer (22-08) came fourth and 10th respectively in the 5km U15 boys’ race in the Humberside Championships at Costello Park, Hull.
