LIAM RIDGILL, of Drax Golf Club near Selby, has been shortlisted for a gong at the England Golf Awards 2018.

Ridgill is in the running for the Young Ambassador of the Year award, going up against rivals from Hatchford Brook Golf Centre in Warwickshire and Ashley Wood Golf Club in Dorset.

The Young Ambassador accolade is one of eight awards to be handed out at a ceremony at the Royal Lancaster London on February 22, with the finalists having been selected by a panel of judges.

England Golf chief executive Nick Pink said: “We were thrilled by the number and quality of nominations we received and delighted so many people are helping us to tell golf’s great stories to the wider community.

“Our finalists are all outstanding and we are looking forward to highlighting their successes at our gala dinner and to applauding our winners.”

Other awards include Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, County of the Year, Most Welcoming Golf Club, Volunteer of the Year, Championship Venue of the Year and Performance of the Year, plus a Lifetime Service Award.

In the running for Performance of the Year are the England women’s team, coached by North Yorkshire's Steve Robinson, after they won the European team championship for the second year in a row.
