CITY of York II earned a 2-2 draw in their visit to now second-bottom Grimsby in the Yorkshire League premier division.

For the second consecutive week, City were missing several key players – as well as captain Rob Newton being absent, the side only arrived with 12 players.

The hosts took an early lead, as a speculative ball into the ‘D’ found their captain, who turned his marker and fired home.

City's play was disjointed, but they grew into the game as the half wore on, with forwards Dan Hyden, Adam Hunter and Ben Salter troubling the Grimsby back line.

Two goals in quick succession turned the game on its head – Hyden got the equaliser for the visitors, before a buoyed City continued to press and got their second through Richard Chandler's cool finish from inside the ‘D’.

A turgid second period followed, however, with City unable to make a further impression on the game, and the hosts levelled with eight minutes remaining from a penalty corner.

City of York Men III’s division one game at Doncaster III was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

City of York Men IV relinquished a half-time lead to lose 5-2 at home to Sheffield Hallam IV and finish the day second from bottom in division two.

Man-of-the-match Bryce Tuckett opened the scoring with a great solo effort, picking the ball up in the Hallam half and powering his way into the ‘D’ to convert a reverse stick shot.

The visitors levelled with a short corner routine, before Josh Doyle put the hosts back in front with a flick past the keeper from Flyn Mullins’ square-ball.

High-flying Hallam showed their class early in the second half, however, and netted three goals from identical short corner set-plays.

City tried to regain their first-half passing and movement, but stray balls and players running into contact made it difficult, and they conceded again when a sloppy pass out of defence went straight to a Hallam player.
