CITY of York Hockey Club’s men's first team leapfrogged their opponents, Harrogate, into fourth spot in North Hockey League division one after a 3-1 home win.

The result put them just one point outside the promotion places.

Following a cagey start, Alex Lake broke the deadlock for the hosts with a drag flick from a penalty corner.

Buoyed by the goal, City continued to press and make their way through the Harrogate back line a number of times.

A one-two between Alex Cockram and Jack Fletcher resulted in a second goal for City, Cockram smashing the ball past the onrushing keeper.

Poor discipline in the second half, however, saw six cards shared between five players, and City had to play 20 minutes with 10 men or fewer, allowing the visitors back into the game.

Eventually the numerical advantage paid off for the visitors and they pulled a goal back.

City dug deep and, with five minutes remaining, Tom Feasby broke and allowed Cockram to score the all-important third goal to secure the win.

City of York II had two Yorkshire League premier division fixtures at the weekend - bouncing back from a 3-2 loss at Harrogate II to beat Lindum II 4-0 at home.

City twice give up the lead at Harrogate. They went ahead in the first minute as Dan Tompkins made a penetrative run and freed Pat Herriott in the ‘D’ to slot home. But the hosts were level within five minutes from a penalty flick.

Luke Kent’s effort from a short corner gave City a goal advantage again going into the break.

However, within minutes of the restart, the visitors had the wind taken out of their sails as Harrogate found their second equaliser.

Nick Murdoch led a resolute City defence, but the team struggled to get their passing game back together and threaten Harrogate, and the hosts finally found the winner.

The second fixture had a happier ending, with City's 4-0 win moving them up to fourth in the table.

Rob Bradley-Consitt terrorised the Lindum defence all game, and had two goals in the opening five minutes, twice beating the keeper from one-on-one situations.

City were three goals to the good by half-time, a great aerial ball from James Fitton setting Bradley-Consitt free to cross for a Dan Hyden tap-in at the back post.

The hosts took their foot off the gas in the second period, and Lindum won a series of short corners, but they were well dealt with by the City defence.

A number of short corners for City eventually resulted in Pat Herriot finding the bottom corner to seal the win.

A composed City of York III earned a 3-0 win over University of Leeds in division one thanks to goals from Tim Lister, David Butchart and John Woodhouse.

City of York IV, though, were beaten 6-0 at division two leaders Harrogate.

City of York V top division three after winning 3-1 at Driffield II. Ben Foster scored twice and man-of-the-match Martin Wright once.

City of York VI lost 6-0 at division four north table-toppers Scarborough.

In the same division, City of York VII won 3-1 at home to Halifax III, Rob Abell, Andy Richardson and Keith Wilson with the goals.

City of York VIII led 6-1 at Driffield III in division five north before the hosts conceded the game due to a head injury to their keeper. Matt Bedford scored three, Chris Allerton two and Charlie Laverack one.

City of York IX drew 3-3 with high-fliers Boston Spa, while Emil Waites scored four as City of York X won 5-0 at home against Bradford V, Katie Wiggins getting the other goal.
