CITY of York Ladies II went down fighting 3-2 at home to Slazengers I to slip to eighth place in the Yorkshire Hockey League premier division.

The visitors opened the scoring from a short corner, but York reset and equalised after good team play, Abby Collins getting the goal.

City were unlucky not to add to their tally after good forward play from Fay Chapman and Holly Davies just before the break.

After a motivating half-time team talk, a renewed City side came out and got their noses in front, as Rees Davies confidently dodged the keeper to slot home.

However, Slazengers replied with the equaliser from a short corner and then, with minutes to go, found the winner from a goalmouth scramble.

City of York Ladies I are fifth in North League division one after their fixture at Chester I finished in a 1-1 stalemate.

They next welcome ninth-placed Bowdon II.

City of York Ladies III earned themselves a 1-1 draw at Kingston-upon-Hull II in Yorkshire League division one.

A scrappy first half ended with the hosts one up, after a dubious penalty flick award just before half-time.

City started the second half strongly, but were unable to convert the chances created by Merri Tomlinson and Abbie Bambridge.

Player-of-the-match Ruth Laybourn got the equaliser after a great run, and with just minutes to go, Jess Hall made a great volley save on the line to earn City of York a point.

City of York Ladies IV remain without a win after a narrow 2-1 loss at home to Harrogate III in division two, despite a much-improved performance.

The hosts rode their luck at times in the first half, but pressed well.

Resolute defending and another strong goalkeeping performance ensured the scores remained level at half-time.

City started the second period well and increased their possession, but Harrogate scored first.

With the momentum behind them, the visitors soon scored another from a well-taken penalty corner.

The hosts did not let their heads drop, however, and Charlotte Mattock got a deserved equaliser.

Debutant Boo Baker-Munton was the player of the match.

City of York Ladies V won 1-0 at Cleckheaton to make it three consecutive victories in division four north.

The game started sluggishly but perked up following Lily Dowdy’s run and cross from the wing that found Nicola Winter at the top of the ‘D’. She tapped the ball to Rebecca Copperthwaite to finish.

From then on, City were dominant, earning numerous short corners which were denied by the keeper.

Possession was more evenly distributed in the second half, keeper Abi Tugwell being called on to keep the hosts at bay.

Likewise, the visitors were denied a number of times, the game ultimately being decided by the early goal.

Great defending and strong hits from Desi Willms earned her the player of the match.

In the same division, City of York Ladies VI conceded an own goal in a 3-0 loss at home to Batley I. They otherwise held their own and kept good possession.

City of York Ladies VII lost 4-0 at second-placed Northallerton II in division five north.

All of the goals came in the second half, as the hosts ramped up the pressure on a relatively inexperienced City side.

The player of the match was keeper Beth Wilson, who threw herself at every attack.
