MORE than 21,000 arrows were fired as York Archers Society held their annual World Record Status Open Competition at Hopgrove Playing Fields.
A total of 106 archers from all corners of the country attended the three-day event at the Malton Road venue and in excess of 134,000 points were scored with Sheila Hudson, of Hebden Bridge’s White Rose Archers, breaking a hat-trick of national records in the WA1440 and WA720 class tournament.
Nine World Archery Awards were also achieved, along with one Six Gold End Award.
The event was opened by the City of York Civic party, with the Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York Cllr Barbara Boyce joined by the Sheriff of York Mrs Gill Brian and the Sheriff’s Lady Mrs Anne Bush.
York Archers Society are keen to hear from anybody interested in taking up the sport or harbouring ambitions to become the club’s next county of national record holder.
