YORK Indoor Bowls Club's ladies triples team are through the finals of the English Championships.

The trio of Helen Wood, Zoe Eagles and Helen Walker won the area final at Alfreton IBC, seeing off Barwell 16-9.

The nationals finals will held at Melton Mowbray later this month March.

York are also through to the Yorkshire county finals in both the ladies' fours, under skip Walker, and the singles, Sue Allen progressing.

Linda Harrison's triples rink, however, were knocked out by Redcar.

York's men's are through to the county double rinks finals, to be held at neighbouring New Earswick IBC on Saturday.

York lost 70-61 to Scarborough in the North Eastern Ladies League.

At Thanet Road, both games were close.

Sue Kirkpartrick, Maggie Pallister, Joan Knight and Ann Donaldson dropped four shots on the first end but levelled things up by the sixth.

They dropped a three on the 10th but constant scoring meant they took the lead after the 15th and had a one-shot advantage at the 18th. However, they failed to add any further score and lost 20-16.

Pat Potter, Jan McManus, Janet Walker and Jean Williams fell behind before good middle ends saw them in front for the first time after 15.

The lead changed hands over the next three ends, Scarborough levelling it up after 20, but York's quartet took the last to emerge 16-15 victors.

At Scarborough, Pauline Armitage, Kath Pepper, Eva Snarr and Michelle Ellis led 5-1 after five ends but lost nine shots in the middle ends without reply.

They were seven shots down after 15 and, despite a decent finish, lost 19-14.

Jean Williams, Maureen Robinson, Sue Jeffery and Jan Brown endured a nightmare finale after a close game.

They were 8-5 down after nine ends before pulling away to lead 12-8 after 14 and 14-10 after 18. After 20, York remained three shots up - but then dropped a four on the last for a 16-15 defeat.

New Earswick beat Selby in the North Eastern Ladies League.

At home, Lorna Tordoff, Kay Hutchinson, Margaret Pearson and Irene Warrington led C Sarvent from start to finish.

They increased a 6-4 advantage after six ends to 15-4 after 12, and went on to win 21-12.

Kath Hardcastle, Peggy Walker, Denise Elliott and Majorie Watson's game against Jane Simpson was almost the opposite.

The Selby rink led from the off and were 11-4 up after 10 ends. Earswick scored five over the next two to close the gap, the teams then matching each other over the next seven, Selby still leading 15-12 with two to play. Earswick notched a single and a two to draw 15-15.

At Selby, Moyra Ellis, Carol Thompson, Lynn Page and Kath Sykes led C Birkinshaw 4-2 after four ends but lost the next five ends to trail 10-4. They fought back to 15-13 behind but lost the last three to go down 20-13.

Doramy Bellwood, June Barker, Carol Williams and Norma Davies stormed 10-0 up against S Williams after four ends and upped the lead to 20-4 after 10.

They won only two of the next eight ends but both were sixes and they went on a 36-17 victory.
