NEW Earswick 'A' ended their disappointing Yorkshire League season with an 86-72 defeat to Redcar, collecting only two points.

Dave Imeson, Bob Elliot, Mick Head and Paul Dawson were their sole victors.

They came from behind to level at 9-9 after nine ends and the scores were also tied at 15 all and 17 all after 17. Earswick then scored a three and a four and went on to win 25-20.

Gary Chapman, Graham Lockwood, Kevin Fort and Tony Abbot dropped a five at the second end, and, while they fought back to level at 10-10 after 11, they dropped a six to trail 17-10 and eventually lost 23-16.

At Redcar, John Harrison, Dave Sykes, Andrew Fothergill and Kevin Liddell were always just behind in a close game before dropping a three at the 19th to go 17-11 down. A four at the next gave them hope but they lost 19-15.

Colin Ellis, Gordon Fratson, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie led 5-0 after three ends and were still in it at 16-14 down after 18 only to drop a seven and go on to lose 24-16.

New Earswick 'B' also collected only two points in an 87-60 division two defeat to Harrogate.

Brian Hutton, Eric Cookson, Graham Bell and Ralph Tiplady led 12-8 after 13 ends then picked up a six en route to a 23-16 win. But that was Earswick's only victory.

Also at home, Paul Murray, Steve Hudson, Barry Harrison and Dick Osguthorpe fell 9-0 down after five ends and never recovered, losing 24-13.

At Harrogate, Joe Barker, Brian Hardcastle, Dave Hutchinson and Brian Birch lost 20-14 and Pat Inwood, Terry Bellwood, Ken Harrison and Gary Jones lost 30-10.

New Earswick Ladies also lost 89-71 to Scarborough in the Yorkshire Ladies' League

Margaret Moss, Kath Hardcastle, Irene Warrington and Majorie Watson got their points.

Despite a four at the second end they trailed 9-4 after six but fought back to lead 12-11 after 12. A dropped five put them behind again but they won the next seven ends, including a five at the 20th, to lead 27-16. They dropped a four at the last but won 27-20.

Also at home, Margaret Pearson, June Barker, Annette Prosser and Kath Sykes led 6-4 after seven ends but lost the next four to trail 10-6. They levelled at 13-13 after 15 and were 17-17 after 19 but dropped a four at the last to lose 22-17.

At Scarborough, Moyra Ellis, Gemma Broadhead, Margaret Morgan and Monika Morgan led 4-1 but lost 22-12, while Doramy Bellwood, Pat Walker, Carol Williams and Norma Davies led 6-4 after eight and were only 15-13 down after 13 but lost 25-15.
