SNOOKER player Ashley Hugill is celebrating after reaching the last 32 of a ranking tournament for the first time in his career.

Hugill, who lives in Melbourne near Pocklington, scooped £1,000 in prize money for his performance at the Coral Shoot Out which took place in Watford and was televised on ITV4.

The 22-year-old amateur beat local rival Paul Davison, who is currently ranked 93rd in the world, 66-32 in the first round.

He defeated Grimsby's Stuart Carrington, the world number 48, in the next round before losing 41-6 to world number 85 Michael Georgiou in the third round.

All matches in the Shoot Out tournament last a maximum of ten minutes with a shot clock of 15 seconds for the first five minutes and 10 seconds for the last five.

Although some of the bigger names in the sport opted out of the competition, the 128 strong field still included former world champions including Shaun Murphy, Stuart Bingham, and Graeme Dott.

Glasgow's Anthony McGill, ranked 20th in the world, won the tournament and the £32,000 first prize beating China's Xiao Guodong in the final.
