YORK’S Chris Quantock beat former UK Open runner-up Vincent van der Voort before being knocked out by two-time world champion Gary Anderson during his first weekend on the full PDC Tour.

Quantock overcame world number 25 van der Voort 6-4 in the second of three UK Open qualifying events at Wigan.

The Strensall ace had earlier defeated Ritchie Edhouse (6-1) and, after disposing of van der Voort, edged out Martin Lukeman 6-5 to set up a meeting with 2015 and 2016 Alexandra Palace winner Anderson, who ended his run 6-2.

Quantock’s appearance in the last 32 was his second in as many days at the Lancashire venue, having also seen off Charlie Jackson (6-3), Nathan Rafferty (6-5) and Jonathan Worsley (6-3) before narrowly going out to John Michael (6-5) in the opening qualifier.

The former Huntington School pupil’s efforts pocketed him £1,500 in prize money, before he went out 6-2 in the second round of the third qualifier to Bradford’s world number 28 Joe Cullen after earlier whitewashing Jim Moston.

Fellow York thrower Richie Corner also claimed the scalp of former top-ten player Justin Pipe, defeating the current world number 26 6-2, as Quantock was despatching van der Voort in the second qualifier.

Corner had won by the odd leg against 2014 world youth champion Keegan Brown to tee up the meeting with Pipe, but went out 6-4 to Ryan Palmer in the third round.

On the first day, Corner conquered Spaniard Antonio Alcinas 6-3 but bowed out 6-1 to 33-year-old, Enfield carpet-fitter Edhouse, who went on to end world number one Michael van Gerwen’s four-month unbeaten run.

Corner beat one-time World Championship semi-finalist Dennis Smith 6-4 on day three, before losing 6-3 to Berry van Peer.

Rawcliffe’s Martyn Turner lost 6-3 to ex-UK Open semi-finalist Alan Tabern in the first qualifier, having progressed past Ryan Harrington 6-4.

On day two, he fell at the first hurdle to Jeffrey de Zwaan (6-5).
