YORK martial arts ace Liam Brough is getting set to fly down under - with world glory in his sights.

Brough, a star of Legions Gym at Clifton Moor, will set off for Australia on November 26 for the Caged Muay Thai 9 supershow at the Logan Metro Sports Centre in Queensland.

He will be travelling with Legions club-mate Ian Houillebecq, who will also compete at the show promoted by John Wayne Parr - an Aussie kickboxing legend nicknamed "The Gunslinger".

The event comprises Thai boxing fights but in cages like those used in UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) Mixed Martial Arts.

And Brough will be one of the main events, taking on a Thai called Ghot Surnoi, who fights out of Nuggets Gym, Queensland, for the caged Muay Thai world title.

The York ace, who lifted the ICO 63.5kg British championship belt earlier this year, will go into the contest bolstered by a notable victory over in Thailand where he fought at the famous Patong Boxing Stadium, stopping his opponent in the third round.

Houillebecq, meanwhile, who won the WBC national Thai boxing title last year, is to fight Jesse "James" March, who hails from the Full Force Gym, in Blacktown, New South Wales.

Legions co-founder and chief instructor Dave Phillips will be going with them. He said: "It's a bit different to what they are used to fighting.

"It is still full Thai rules with kicks, knees and elbows etc, but it is in a cage with the small 4oz MMA gloves on also.

"It's a big event and I'm pretty sure our fighters are really looking forward to it."
