THE five life members of the York Amateur Bowling Association Veterans section - with a combined age of 441 - got together for the first time at the annual general meeting.

Former York City forward Alf Patrick was joined by fellow life members Eric Bramma, Geoff Oglesby, Doug Petty and Ron Stewart at York Indoor Bowls Club.

Chairman Geoff Oglesby said league rules only allow for a maximum of five life members at any one time, adding "how nice it is to see all five here together for the first time".

The meeting was attended by nine officials and 32 club representatives, with secretary Terry Shepherdson thanking all clubs who had made their greens available for competitions during the summer.

The structure for next season was discussed as the leagues are uneven in numbers due to three clubs having to withdraw due to a shortage of bowlers.

Clubs voted in favour of the committee’s proposal for the 36 clubs to form four leagues of nine teams next season.
