A DOZEN did the dirty on Simon Dyson in the opening round of the Joburg Open in South Africa.
The York-born ace had made a healthy inroad on the Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club west course when he came to the par-four 12th.
And there his round came unstuck when he shot a double-bogey six, which erased the solid advantage he had gained by birdying the second and third holes.
Any temptation to fade away though was blocked out by the world number 166. Continuing his steady sub-par form of his last two European outings – the Qatar Masters and Dubai Desert Classic – Dyson fired his third and final birdie of the day on the par-four 15th to finish with a one-under 71 and midway down the field.
A clutch of players finished yesterday on seven-under including Scotland’s Alastair Forsyth, South Africa’s Justin Walters and Edoardo Molinari from Italy.
