JOHN Carver will continue to plan for Leeds United's future despite the constant speculation surrounding the vacant manager's position at Elland Road.

Gary McAllister has become the latest candidate to be linked with the job but Carver insists he is paying no attention to the rumour-mill.

Carver said: "There are a lot of experts out there. Players, ex-managers, the press - everybody's an expert. But until you've been in the situation, when you know and understand what goes on and you're prepared to take the plunge and have a go those are the people I'll listen to.

"Guys like Peter Reid who have had a go at it, I'll listen to what they have to say."

Carver, who is currently caretaker boss, has made no secret of his ambitions to land the job on a permanent basis. But successive defeats against West Bromwich Albion, Stoke and Leicester have left his chances seemingly hanging by a thread.

Carver said: "The chairman is the most important guy here. I'll listen to what he has to say.

"We've had conversations over the last few days and they've been good conversations. When he gave me this caretaker role, he's always said get on with it and do the job' and he's never said anything else.

"I just prepare the team and do what I'm paid to do."

The former Newcastle United assistant boss admitted times are tough at Elland Road ahead of today's trip to Luton.

But he was calling on his troops to show their worth as they look to begin their climb away from the Championship relegation zone.

"The players have got to get themselves sorted out now. We are in a dogfight and they've got to do something about it."
