As a defender, Paul Butler covets clean sheets but the Leeds United skipper accepts he may have to sacrifice some goals with John Carver's more entertaining tactics.

Carver likes his team to play like those of his mentors Kevin Keegan and Bobby Robson, going for goals, even if that leaves them vulnerable at the back.

Of the prospect Butler said: "I don't care if we win games 9-8 as long as we are winning. That's all I'm bothered about."

The Leeds skipper feels the side are now ready to put together a series of good results adding: "We needed that win over Birmingham.

"The ability and the confidence is there and we are looking forward to going to West Brom this weekend. It's a big stage and that should suit us."

Leeds have two games in four days coming up against Southend at the end of October, in the Carling Cup and the Championship, but know they won't be facing former striker Michael Ricketts.

The former England front-man joined Southend at the beginning of the season on a permanent move but Leeds managed to put a clause in the deal saying he could not play against them at Elland Road.

These clauses are usually reserved for loan moves but Leeds have also put them in permanent deals for Clarke Carlisle and Matthew Spring.

Leeds United's reserve team fixture against Shrewsbury Town at York City's KitKat Crescent has been moved to Tuesday, October 3, 7pm kick-off.

The game is likely to see the return of Leeds striker and former City star Richard Cresswell after long-term injury.

Admission prices are £3 for adults and £1 for juniors.
