Hayden Foxe will be given another opportunity to impress Leeds United boss Kevin Blackwell when the reserves take on Darlington tonight.

The Australian defender did well on United's two-match pre-season trip to Norway but Blackwell wants to make sure the foot injury that has sidelined Foxe for almost two seasons can stand up to a series of games before offering him a contract.

The former West Ham and Portsmouth player, who is out of contract and will not require a fee, may also play a part in the match at Hartlepool on Saturday and again next week as Leeds tackle Scunthorpe, Nottingham Forest, Harrogate Town and York City.

Blackwell is looking at Foxe as a possible replacement for Simon Walton, who was sold to Crystal Palace for £500,000.

Meanwhile, Leeds youth team coach Greg Abbott has left the club to become first team coach at Carlisle United. The former Bradford City midfielder has been at Leeds for six years and has been looking to move up from youth coaching. Having missed out on the reserve post at Leeds, he has linked up with new Carlisle boss Neil McDonald.
