Tony Capaldi is the most likely of Leeds United’s new loan recruits to make his debut in Sunday’s televised FA Cup second round tie at Kettering.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international has moved to Elland Road from Championship club Cardiff City until January 4, and the Bluebirds have not de-manded he avoid being cup-tied.

He could thus come into boss Simon Grayson’s thinking for Sun-day, possibly as a straight swap for left-back Andy Hughes, who was injured in Tuesday’s League One win over Leyton Orient.

Liverpool goalkeeper David Martin, 23, and QPR winger Hogan Ephraim have also joined Leeds on loan, until December 28 and January 1 respectively.

Martin, son of former West Ham and England defender Alvin, provides cover for Casper Ankergren while Shane Higgs recovers from a thigh injury. He has not played a competitive game for the Reds, but made 25 appearances for MK Dons before moving to Anfield and has had loan spells at Accrington, Leicester and Tranmere.

Ephraim has scored one goal in seven games for Championship hopefuls QPR this season but has found opportunities limited.

Capaldi, who has also played for Birmingham and Plymouth, can play at either left-back or left-midfield, though a knee injury has res-tricted his appearances this season. Grayson said: “Tony is a good experienced player. He will provide us with some quality competition at a busy time of the year.”

Meanwhile, young Leeds striker Davide Somma, who has scored four goals in four reserve appearances this season, has joined League Two club Chesterfield on loan until January 2.
