STAND-IN captain Richard Naylor is targeting back-to-back away wins to breathe new life into Leeds United’s play-off challenge in Coca-Cola League One.

The Elland Road outfit travel to Walsall tomorrow, with 4,000 Whites fans expected to make the journey to the Midlands, before Tuesday’s trip to Leyton Orient.

Naylor, who led the side against Peterborough last Saturday and then scored in Tuesday’s 2-0 home win over Southend, said: “We have two away games now that are both winnable and we have plenty of confidence from the last few games.”

Naylor was extremely proud to take over the captain’s armband against Posh in the absence of club skipper Frazer Richardson.

He said: “That was unbelievable. I was surprised and it put a bit of extrra pressure on me for my first game at Elland Road.

“Hopefully I can grow into the role and bring something to the team.”

Scoring against Southend was a further boost to the Leeds-born defender.

“I haven’t scored for a couple of seasons,” he said. “I was due one and it was great to score. The three points keeps us ticking over.”

United have released striker Malcolm Christie after the former MIddlesbrough frontman made five appearances for the club.

The injury-plagued 29-year-old scored one goal for the Whites.

Meanwhile, United’s trip to Leicester City on Easter Monday has been brought forward to 12.15pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports.

Sky will also show the home clash with Millwall on Monday, February 9 and the trip to Oldham, which has been switched to Monday, March 2.
